(Cruel Summer - Taylor Swift)
You can listen to the song I put on top while reading the chapter if you want, otherwise you can skip it too. They will be listening to the song in the car ride so if you prefer, grab your headphones and get started. It's going to be a ride.

Ivy
Ty and I sat in his car. I put on my seatbelt and picked up the bottle of water Ty always kept in his car, mostly for me. He also kept a baggie of Cheerio's for me in case I got hungry like a child, but it did come in handy sometimes. I gulped down the water for some reason, I was just getting thirsty. Maybe it was because of the walk from the house to the car, but whatever. I just wanted to go home and hug my mother.
I never liked being in a car in silence. I preferred to listen to the radio or play some song. I wanted to blast Taylor's (Taylor Swift) music, but my phone was almost dead, because I hadn't even charged it since last night. I had to wait till I got home. So, I decided to switch on the radio, and I started to switch channels till I found a good enough channel, which played some good songs.
"You know you can even talk to me instead of listening to music," Ty commented.
"Okay, what is this, your first day?" I questioned, not even looking up at him from the radio screen.
Ty let out a hearty laugh and I was busy with the radio till I found a station that was playing a good enough song. I turned it up and I was so happy listening to the song, I loved it. I smiled and opened the windows of the car all the way down and rested my head on my hand on the edge of the door, full on main character vibes.
Bad, bad boy
Shiny toy with a price You know that I bought it.
"Why am I not surprised it's Taylor Swift?" Ty talks to me through the music.
"Because I have superior taste in music," I answered him back and increased the volume of the song.
I just wanted to feel like the main character in a car, with wind in my hair, enjoying that song without contemplating my life. But instead of a long drive across the desert I get a ten-minute ride home. Anyways, I'll take what I get.
Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes. What doesn't kill me makes me want you more.
"And it's new, the shape of your body, it's blue," I looked at Ty who was singing along to the lyrics. I was so shocked he knew the lyrics. "The feeling I've got, and it's ooh whoa, oh it's a cruel summer," he sang.
I continued after him, "It's cool, that's what I tell 'em no rules, in breakable heaven but ooh whoa, it's a cruel summer," I sang.
"With you," Ty and I looked at each other and sang that part to each other.
I smiled at him, and he smiled at me, and I went back to hanging my head out the window, back to my main character position.
My mind went back to that very subtle moment Ayan, and I shared. He was looking at me. Like actually looking and admiring me. He couldn't take his eyes off me. I sat up straight and I looked at my wrist, the part Ayan touched. It felt so special. I felt special. Not in a childish way, like Ty takes care of me, but I felt noticed and I enjoyed that brief moment of attention.
Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes. And if I bleed, you'll be the last to know.
"Oh it's new, the shape of your body, it's blue, the feeling Iv's got and it's ooh, whoa, oh it's a cruel summer," I sang out loud this time, looking at Ty and silently asking him to continue while mouthing the lyrics.
"It's cool, that's what I tell 'em no rules, in breakable heaven, and ooh, whoa, oh it's a cruel summer," he continued after me.
"With you," this time we both said it out loud, but we were both looking at the road and not each other this time.
I was mouthing the lyrics the entire time, not singing them out very loud. I knew Taylor's songs' lyrics like the back of my hand, but I wasn't in the mood to sing out loud and enjoy myself. Apparently, I was in the mood to just gaze at my wrist or out the window or at the road and think about the past 2 days, while just mouthing the lyrics because that was an acquired reflex at this point for me.
And I screamed for whatever it's worth "I love you ain't that the worst thing you ever heard? He looks up grinning like a devil
And after this, I just gave up. I just didn't want to think about Salvatore, or the fact he can appear magically before me and do a bippity boppity boo, and turn my friends to stone and do whatever the hell he wanted with me, but I just gave in and started screaming the lyrics to enjoy this moment right now, without worrying for just 2 fucking minutes.
"IT'S NEW, THE SHAPE OF YOUR BODY, IT'S BLUE THE FEELING I'VE GOT, AND IT'S OOH WHOA, OH IT'S A CRUEL SUMMER, IT'S COOL, THAT'S WHAT I TELL 'EM NO RULES, IN BREAKABLE HEAVEN BUT OOH, WHOA, OH IT'S A CRUEL SUMMER WITH YOU." I screamed with everything I had in me and just let the words and her voice consume me, blocking all my thoughts.
"And, she's back ladies and gentlemen," Ty pretended to announce and I smiled at him. I finally saw him relieved, like he let out a big sigh of relief and was able to breathe again.
"I'M DRUNK IN THE BACK OF THE CAR, AND I CRIED LIKE A BABY COMING HOME FROM THE BAR, SAID, "I'M FINE" BUT IT WASN'T TRUE, I DON'T WANNA KEEP SECRETS JUST TO KEEP YOU, AND I SNUCK IN THROUGH THE GARDEN GATE, EVERY NIGHT THAT SUMMER JUST TO SEAL MY FATE OH, AND I SCREAMED FOR WHATEVER IT'S WORTH"
""I LOVE YOU" AIN'T THAT THE WORST THING YOU EVER HEARD," Ty joined in and screamed along with me.
The song ended and another song started playing. I was just tired so I turned the volume down and drank some water again. I calmed down and went back to my main character position again and just smiled and I was actually at peace.
"You know Taylor actually heals all. I feel so much better right now," I conveyed my observation to Ty.
"Uh huh, I am glad, you finally feel a little bit better Liv. And don't blame yourself for what happened to Aldair. His jock ass can handle much more. You were the one who saved him. I know we have a lot to talk about but save it for a time everyone is a little less scared and shocked." Ty showed his concerns.
"I know, but the man slept on the floor of my room all night, I could've at least gone with him you know in case something happens."
"Oh, so you wanna follow him everywhere like a puppy dog even to the bathroom Ivy?"
"Umm...."
"Oh God, Ivy, I know you want to go and maybe even shower with him, but you cannot follow him around everywhere and protect him. He can take care of himself. You have to be more careful than him. You need to take care of yourself and not everyone else around you, you know.
"Okay okay. I can take care of myself okay, it's just that Ayan-"
"Ayan what, Ivy, leave him, he is not your responsibility. Protect yourself first. I am begging you, please."
"Okay. You also need to stop worrying about me, you know."
Ty literally shifted a whole 90 degrees and looked at me with a face mixed with surprise and anger, "Woman are you kidding me!? A man makes you faint when he is around, don't tell me that cold ass man is not a fucking threat. I will always be worried about dumbass, and with that bald man around, I will do all I can to protect you."
I just laughed at the face he made earlier and smiled at his concern for me. He put his hand on mine, and just looked ahead on the road while driving. His hands didn't move from above my hands the entire ride. I felt protected in a way. Ty has a way of just comforting me with his presence. Maybe it's in his genes, but I am very familiar with them.
The car stopped outside my house, I looked at Ty and he removed his seatbelt, closed the windows of the car, shut the engine and by the time he finished with everything, I got out of my seat and went to his side of the car. I opened the car door for him and as soon as he got out, closed the door behind him, and locked the car doors with the keys, I hugged him as tightly as I could. I really needed to do that. He was a little surprised with the gesture, but he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tighter than me.
"Awww....Livvy are you okay?" Ty sounded a little concerned as always.
"Uh huh." I snuggled deeper into his chest, and he didn't let go of me.
He planted a kiss on my head, that's when we let go of the hug. He walked with me to drop me to my door. He said, "I'll get to say hi to Mrs. Levine too."
"She will be more than happy to see you."
"Oh well, Livvy, what can I say I am such a delight, I can't help it for the life of me," Ty bragged.
I swatted his arm, "Oh stop bragging, and wipe that smug smile off your face."
We both let out a chuckle, the answer had reached the door so I rang the doorbell. I was just so exhausted, all I wanted to do was to go inside. Home. I wanted to hug my mom and sleep in her lap.
The door opened and my mom came out. The minute she saw Ty and me, she hugged me first and kissed Ty's cheeks while hugging. Ty used to be a little unfamiliar and uncomfortable with the European tradition but he got used to it and my mom so quickly. They got along very well and that made me really happy.
"Oh ma Cherie, it feels like I haven't seen you in ages. Are you okay baby? Ty tell me what happened at the party? How did you get the panic attack?"
"Mama, calm down. I am fine. It was very short lived. Nothing major you know. Please, let's just all sit down." I tried to calm her down.
"Mrs. Levine, how have you been doing? You don't need to worry about her. She was doing well yesterday. I made sure she ate a good breakfast also." Ty consoled her.
"Oh mon Dieu, that's why I love you, Tiger. Come in, do you want something to eat? Or you also had a nice and heavy breakfast?"
"Yes ma'am. I did eat a lot. I gorged on a whole buffet. BUt thank you for the invite, Mrs. Levine. Unfortunately, I have to get going. Next time for sure. I'll come for an entire meal if you'd like."
"Maman, il doit rentrer à la maison. Next time." I tried to explain to her that he had to go home.
"D'accord, Ty come over for dinner today if you can, or let me know whenever you want to come, you can pop by and I'll make you a nice meal," Maman invited Ty lovingly.
"Yes I will let you know Mrs. Levine. Thank you so much for everything," Ty thanked her and was getting ready to leave.
Maman said, "Ty Merci, for keeping my daughter safe and supporting her with everything."
Ty held her hands in his hands and said, "No, you don't need to thank me for anything Mrs. Levine please. I don't do it as a formality. I do it because I want to. It's Livvy afterall."
"Awwww, my Tiger," I smiled at him. His sweet words always had a way with my heart. He somehow always managed to make me smile.
"I should leave now. Thank you, Mrs. Levine, and Liv, take care and remember what I said to you."
I hugged Ty goodbye and we shut the door as he left. I sat down on the couch and Maman followed. We sat next to each other, and I switched on the TV. I put on TLC, and we started to watch Zumbo's just desserts. A dessert making competition. It was like Master Chef but for desserts. It was our comfort show and a tradition. It always made me hungry. My mom and I used to watch it because my mom thought it would make me hungry and help increase my appetite. It actually helped and I am still pretty skinny, but it helped me get hungry more frequently.
After some time, I just lay down on my mother's lap and she started stroking my hair. That moment was pure bliss. I truly forgot about everything. In that moment, I didn't even have to try to forget about the fact a bald ghost-like man was behind me and Ayan. I just watched TV and I fell asleep. Everything was normal, in fact it was never better.
